Granny's Garden School

Description: Granny's Garden School is about the community coming together to create a healthy, fun, creative and effective outdoor learning environment to enhance our school system. It is located on the grounds of the Loveland Elementary school where we serve Loveland's more than 1, 600 K-4th grade students. We are turning the school grounds and surrounding woods into living laboratories used by teachers, students and the community.

Garden Locations: Loveland Elementary School, 550 Loveland-Madeira, OH 45140. Office location: 20 Miamiview Drive, Loveland, OH 45140

Hours of Operation: The gardens and nature trail are open dawn to dusk, seven days a week for self guided tours. All other activities are by appointment.

Facility Open to Public: Yes except when school is in session.

Onsite Programs: Yes

Offsite Programs: Yes. We maintain a Speakers Bureau covering a variety of gardening topics. Call 324-2873 for more information.

Entrance Fees: No

Program Fees: Most programs require advance registration.

Handicap Accessible: Parts of all of the gardens are accessible by wheelchair. The nature trail is not.

Teacher training workshops/programs: We are in the process of developing workshops and programs to assist educators with developing school grounds based environmental education programs in the Greater Cincinnati Area. Call 324-2873 for details.

Audiences: Most of the on site programs we offer are for children K-4th grade. We do offer programs on occasion that include adults as well.

Programs Topics: How to develop and maintain a school grounds based environmental education program. Anything to do with the growing of flowers and the growing, harvesting and cooking of fresh produce and herbs in a school garden environment.

Free Teacher Resources: Yes. We make all of our lesson plans and guides available free on our website. We also offer seeds and plants to any educator starting a school based environmental education program.

Community Service Opportunities Available: Yes! for teens, adults and families. We offer a wide variety of opportunities throughout the year for individuals and groups. In addition, in September we sponsor a Community Service Weekend in conjunction with Make a Difference Day and again every weekend in April.
